Police officers responded to New Rochelle High School at approximately noon on Wednesday, Jan. 8, where there was a report of past sexual abuse of a student by another student on school grounds.
New Rochelle Police Department Capt. Cosmo Costa said. An ambulance was also called to the school to transport the student for evaluation at an area hospital.
Costa said that the matter is under investigation and no additional information is expected to be released at this time.
The district is conducting its own investigation, according to reports, and counselors and support professionals were to be made available to students through the rest of the week.
New Rochelle Schools Superintendent Laura Feijoo acknowledged in a letter to parents that a student “raised an extremely concerning allegation of sexual assault at the school.”
“Upon learning of the allegation, school staff followed all proper procedures, including immediately notifying law enforcement and me,” she continued. “While the district has already begun investigating the alleged incident, as well as its response to the allegation, this matter is now under active police investigation, with which the district is fully cooperating.”
